Captain America: Civil War opened with $181.8 million (domestically), which is the fifth largest opening weekend of all-time, and the third largest opening for a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Globally the film’s total is now up to $675.79 million. The movie has been getting great reviews, and fantastic word-of-mouth so it should continue to do well until X-Men: Apocalypse arrives on May 20.
Last week’s #1 movie, The Jungle Book, dropped to 2nd with another $21.8 million. Further down the list, another Disney powerhouse – Zootopia, is still in the Top 10. All of these massive hits have have made Disney the fastest studio to cross $1 billion domestically. It took the Mouse studio 128 days to what Universal did in 165 days last year.
